Christ’s church has always been called to be a community of encouragement and support. Right now, even as we worship online, we have an incredible opportunity to offer both of these things to each other and to the people in our neighborhoods.
As a way of reminding ourselves of this, we are calling the week of Aug 30th - Sept 5th CONNECT WEEK. This is simply a time in which we are asking each of us to commit to reaching out to one person every day. This can be someone you haven’t talked to in a while or who might be in need of encouragement. Below you will see some easy and practical suggestions on how to do this in a different way each day.
COMMUNION IN THE PARK - AUGUST 30
Connect Week kicks off with two short communion services at a local park at 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. Sign up to join us, and watch a short introductory video by Corey.
PHONE A FRIEND MONDAY - AUGUST 31
Texts, emails, and social media posts are great, but sometimes you just need to hear a voice. Call or video chat with someone you haven’t heard from in a while or who might need an encouraging call right now.
DROP A LINE TUESDAY - SEPTEMBER 1
The written word has incredible potential to encourage others. Today send an encouraging note, text, or email to someone who may need it.
GIVE A GIFT WEDNESDAY - SEPTEMBER 2
Homemade cookies, a Sonic drink, a small gift card. It’s amazing what a small, thoughtful gift can communicate. Take a gift to someone who could use encouragement. Remember it doesn’t have to be extravagant.
SUPPORT YOUR COMMUNITY THURSDAY - SEPTEMBER 3
Who is working hard in your community that could use some appreciation? What local restaurant could use your patronage right now? Find a way to be a good neighbor today.
FACE-TO-FACE FRIDAY - SEPTEMBER 4
The pandemic has reminded us of the importance of face-to-face interaction. Porches, parks, and patios have become great places to meet safely and distanced. Spend some time with someone you have not seen in a long time. If you are unable to meet in person, pick your favorite video chat platform.
SERVE SOMEBODY SATURDAY - SEPTEMBER 5
Weekends are great times to serve someone at church or in your neighborhood. Whether it’s lawn work, running an errand, or helping with a home project, find a way this Saturday to serve others.
