Returning to Riverside Church for worship.

Returning To Riverside Church For Worship

Here’s what we want you to know about returning to Riverside Church for worship. This is not a comprehensive list but we did want to address a few things to better prepare you for what worship will look like and what our expectations are in the coming weeks.

ONLINE REGISTRATION

In order to seat everyone at a safe distance for worship, we will be offering two in-person worship gatherings that will each be 1 hour, and we will limit our worship gatherings to 100 people at this time. We would like to ask you to register online for worship so that we know you are coming. When one worship time reaches capacity the online registration will be removed.

WORSHIP TIMES THIS WEEKEND

  • Saturday, June 27 at 5:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, June 28 at 10:30 a.m.

Register for one of these Worship Times

PARKING & ENTERING THE BUILDING

We want to ask everyone to use the FRONT entrance and SOUTH entrance to the building only. We will not open the doors by the GYM. That part of the building will not be in use at this time.

TEMPERATURE & SYMPTOM CHECKS

Before each worship gathering, we will check temperatures of our staff and difference makers who will be serving at that gathering. We ask all worship attendees to check their temperatures before coming to worship. If you have an elevated temperature, are not feeling well, or think that you’ve been exposed to the virus, please continue to worship from home at this time.

MASKS

In accordance with the state guidelines for worship attendees quoted below, we are encouraging people to wear their own masks.

“Consistent with the actions taken by many individuals across the state, consider wearing cloth face coverings (over the nose and mouth) when entering a church, congregation, or place of worship, or when within 6 feet of another person who is not a member of the individual’s household. If available, individuals should consider wearing non-medical grade face masks.”

SEATING

You will notice one major difference in our Auditorium when you return. In order to seat everyone in a way that maintains physical distancing but also creates a warm and inviting space for worship, we’ve set up tables and chairs in the Auditorium. A family can be seated at a table together. Also, 2 sets of couples could be seated at 1 table if needed, being seated on opposite sides. Upon entering the Foyer you will be immediately ushered to a table and asked to remain there until the end of worship. At the end of worship, we will dismiss people by tables to exit the building. We want to encourage any fellowship and extended conversations to happen outdoors at this time while maintaining safe physical distancing.

CHILDREN

We ask for families of all ages to stay together. Children who are elementary age and younger should be attended by a parent (within arm’s length) at all times.

PHYSICAL CONTACT

As we continue to practice physical distancing during this time we ask that attendees avoid physical contact while attending worship. We know this may feel odd at church, but we know we can all find creative and friendly ways to greet each other while also keeping physical distance.

WORSHIP LENGTH

During this time, we plan to shorten our worship gathering to 1 hour. Doors will open 15 minutes prior to the start of worship. We will start on time and you will be dismissed by table at the end.

COMMUNION

Individual communion packets will already be at each table so that these elements will be ready for you when we come to this important moment in our worship time together.

GIVING

Many of you have moved your weekly giving online. Thank you! Please continue to give online during this time. We will have giving boxes available by each entrance if you wish to give cash or check.

BATHROOMS

We will have two sets of bathrooms available for use. The bathrooms downstairs in the Foyer will be reserved for anyone who may be in a high risk group. The bathrooms upstairs, directly above the Foyer, will be available for anyone else. We will have a difference maker stationed by each bathroom so that no more than one person or one family unit will be in the bathroom at a time. We would ask, however, that you plan to use the bathroom before coming to worship and after returning home from worship so that we can limit the use of our bathrooms at this time. We hope that shortening our worship gathering to 1 hour will help with this need. But please know, they are available for use if you need them.

GYM & PLAYGROUND

The gym and playground will remain closed at this time. If you have keys to the building or children who like to play in those spaces, please help us by respecting this request at this time.

EXITING THE BUILDING

When our worship gathering comes to a close, our hospitality team will dismiss each table, one at a time. At that time, we do ask that you exit the building and enjoy socially distanced fellowship or conversations outdoors.

CLEANING

After worship, our professional cleaning crew will clean and disinfect the areas of our building that we have used.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS

We will need people like you to step up and help serve our church during this time. Please let us know if you would be willing to help us as we seek to provide a safe, clean, and meaningful worship time for our church. Here are the areas where we will need your help.

Ushers: People willing to direct people to tables in the auditorium before worship and help direct people out of the building after worship.

Chairs & Tables: People willing to help clean and reset chairs and tables for the next worship gathering.

If you would be willing to serve as an usher or in resetting for the next worship gathering, please sign up.

Greeters: People willing to hold the doors open and cheerfully welcome people into our building.

If you would like to be contacted to serve as a greeter at a future gathering, please sign up.

ONLINE CLASSES

At this time, our adult classes and Home Groups will continue to meet online using Zoom. We will not be having classes for any ages at the building at this time.

As I hope you can see, much thought and prayer has gone into all of this. We are excited to be able to worship together again. We realize that now is not the right time for everyone and that is completely ok! But for those who choose to return we hope to provide a safe and meaningful worship experience!
